This Week in Physics (Feb 7-11)

 In Physics

Dear Parents and students,

The students did well at the science fair and stem fest this week.  I was proud of their accomplishments.  A few of the students are still working on finishing their final papers.  Parents you may be interested in seeing what your student has done.  Check out their papers to see their work!

Here is our class schedule for this week:

Notes and Practice:12.1 Sound Waves
Frequency lab: Download a frequency detector and a guitar tuner app. Make noise with various items and see if you can find the resonant frequency of the sound. You can also play youtube videos of various frequencies. Record your data. Use at least 8 objects or sounds.

Notes and Practice:12.2 Speed of Sound
12.3 Intensity and Loudness of Sound
Speed of sound lab
Use this link to virtually do this lab: https://www.newpathonline.com/free-curriculum-resources/virtual_lab/Speed_of_Sound/10/8,9,10,11,12,13,14/1905
Record your results for the speed of sound in various parameters. (at least 8 different variations) Then write 2 paragraphs explaining why the speed of sound varies in these situations.

Notes and Practice:12.4 Frequency and Pitch of Sound
12.5 Doppler Effect
12.6 Ultrasound
Guitar Wavelength, Frequency, & Speed lab. IF you do not have a guitar, you may use a metal wire or plastic wire to creat a string frequency. Use different lengths. You will need to download a guitar tuner app for this experiment.
