This Week in Biology (Oct 18-22)

In Biology, Scholars Prep Science - 7th Grade

Dear Parents and students,

Inheritance, Punnett squares and Genetics can be a lot of fun!  It all depends on if you are students learning or mad scientists doing crazy genetics experiments… No, we will not do any crazy genetics experiments in class. Don’t worry!  But we will have fun determining the traits of offspring!

Here is our class schedule for next week:

Read: 3.1 Pea Plants
Notes and Practice: 3.2 Mendel’s First Experiment
In 150 words or more, describe dominant and recessive alleles, providing examples from Mendel’s work.

Read: 3.3 Mendel’s Second Experiment
Notes and Practice: 3.4 Mendel’s Laws
CK-12 Biology Workbook: 6.2 Critical Reading and Multiple Choice

CAMP STUDENTS ARE ONLY RESPONSIBLE FOR CK-12 Practices w-f

Notes and Practice: 3.6 Punnett Squares
Mendel’s Experiments Lab

Notes and Practice: 3.7 Non-Mendelian Inheritance

Research the Human Genome Project. Write 200 words about the project.  What was it?  How long did it last?  What is it used for now? What are the future advancements because of the project?

Notes and Practice:  None
Project:  Design a poster (2×8.5 sheets) illustrating the Human Genome project and explaining its potential uses.  Make sure to use color.  This will be graded for content and must be neat and colorful.
