This Week in Physics (Feb 1-5)
Dear Parents and students,
Music is a beautiful application of physics and mathematics. This week, your student will be studying sound waves and frequencies. In one of their experiments they will be able to see the patterns that different frequencies produce in nature!
Science Fair Update:
I am very proud of our students. Some of them produced incredible projects. A few of them actually produced projects that were on par with college upperclassmen. It is a privelege to be among greatness!
This Friday is the Stem Fest! Your student should brin in their STEM project so they can compete. Then on the 13th we will have the virtual Science Fair competition for those who move forward from the classroom presentations.

Here is our class schedule for the week:
12.1 Sound Waves
Frequency lab: Download a guitar tuner app. Make noise with various items and see if you can find the resonant frequency of the sound. Record your data. Use at least 8 objects or sounds.
12.2 Speed of Sound
12.3 Intensity and Loudness of Sound
Speed of sound lab
12.4 Frequency and Pitch of Sound
12.5 Doppler Effect
12.6 Ultrasound
Guitar Wavelength, Frequency, & Speed lab.
IF you do not have a guitar, you may use a metal wire or plastic wire to creat a string frequency. Use different lengths. You will need to download a guitar tuner app for this experiment.
