This Week in Biology (Nov 2-6)

In Biology, Scholars Prep Science - 7th Grade

Dear Parents and students,

Recently someone lost their life as a result of CRISPR technology that allows additions to the genetic code of an organism or individual.  Making changes to our genes can have effects that were not anticipated.  Biotech is increasingly becoming a major issue today.  Your students are exploring what we know of Biology and they very well may be the next bioloists, geneticists and doctors.  But there is so much that we still do not know. What regulations should be put in place to govern the direction of this complicated science and what does your student belive is ethical? A casual discussion about biotechnology could be a good family past time.  HAHA
