This Week in Biology Aug 3-7

 In Biology, Scholars Prep Science - 7th Grade

Dear Parents and students,

We had a wonderful first 2 days!  It was such a pleasure to see all the students.  We have a great group of students this year and I am excited to see them grow.  This week we will be exploring what makes things living!  Is a robot alive?  Why or why not?

Here is our class schedule for the week:

Monday
1.2  Experiment
1.3  Scientific Theories
Read Both sections.  Complete the practice on section 1.2 Experiment
Group Project:  Design an Experiment

Tuesday
1.4  Characteristics of Life
1.5  Principles of Biology
Read 1.4 & 1.5  Complete practice on 1.4 only
Group Project (10 minutes): Is it Alive?
Class Debate (20 minutes):  Can a robot be classified as living?

Wednesday
1.6  Interdependence of Living Things
1.7  Organization of Living Things
Read 1.6 & 1.7  Complete practice on 1.7 only
Project:  ORGANIZATION OF LIFE
Create an artistic diagram or model of the organization of life.  Please be creative!
Thursday
1.8  Evolution of Life
Read 1.8 and complete practice
Project: Natural Science is not based on beliefs.  Natural Science is not based on beliefs, value judgments or supernatural explanations.  It is only based on our observations and repeatable experiments.  However, this does not mean faith and values are not true or relevant.  Write a one page essay on what Natural science is and why it does not include beliefs.

Friday
1.9  Significance of Carbon
1.10  Carbohydrates
Read 1.9 & 1.10 Complete practice only on 1.9
CARBON PROJECT

Instructional videos for each day are found in your CK-12 reading.
All Practices must be completed with at least 80% mastery in order to receive credit.
All work is due Friday by 3:30PM
