This Week in Biology (Sep 21-25)
Dear Parents and students,
We explored fermentation and anaerobic respiration this week. It was a little stinky in the classroom as we waited for our yeast to run out of oxygen so they could switch to anaerobic respiration and start fermenting. This coming week we will begin karyotyping our genotypes. The students will be able to see the genetic makeup of their pretend offspring.
Here is our class schedule for the week:
Read: 2.31 Cell Division
Notes and Practice: 2.32 Cell Cycle
Cell Cycle Skit
Create a skit acting out the steps in the cell cycle with a partner. Be creative. 15 minutes to get ready to perform.
Notes and Practice: 2.33 Chromosomes
Karyotype Lab
Finish Karyotyping Lab
Read: 2.34 Mitosis
Read: 2.35 Reproduction
Notes and Practice: 2.36 Meiosis
Mitosis and Meiosis Essay
Explain what Mitosis and Meiosis are. How is mitosis different than meiosis? Draw a diagram showing both happening. Give examples of species that use each. 180 words.
Notes and Practice: 2.38 Genetic Variation
Read: 2.39 Life Cycle
Variation Project
Instructional videos for each day are found in your CK-12 reading.
All Practices must be completed with at least 80% accuracy to receive credit.
All work is due Friday by 3:30 PM
